A nice bike excursion between Lecce and the Adriatic coast. Starting from the countryside, we shall pedaltoward the sea and, after a few kilometers, we shall already find ourselves among the fields, surrounded by stone walls, ancient "masserie", "pajare", and other traces of local farm life. Once we've crossed the small center of Merine, we shall arrive in Acaya, a fortified borough of the Middle Ages, where one can still admire some traits of the walls and the urban plan, which has remained intact since the 16th century. Here we can take a break in a "puteca", a typical cafe and grocery store, where one can taste some nice local cuisine or drink a fresh Salento ice coffee. We shall then go ahead toward the Cesine park, a natural WWF oasis which is very important for the safeguard of local biodiversity and where migratory birds linger. Lastly, we shall come back into Lecce crossing two other small towns and the neighbouring fields, characterized by the presence of century-old olive trees.
